Let's face it, any dude with at least half a nut has thought about moving out west and making big bucks working on Alberta's oil rigs.

But if you actually did, would you even know where to start?

This site will show you how to do just that, without all the bullshit - for free. How to get hired, equipment you'll need, and most importantly, how to survive.

Because the rumors are true. There is a shitload of money to be made working on oil rigs.

Let's start with the basics.

THE OIL & GAS INDUSTRY
It doesn't take a fuckin' genius to figure out that oil and gas is big business, with millions and millions of dollars spent and made every year.

In Alberta alone, almost 100 billion dollars has been invested in the oil industry since 2000. That's a shitload of money by any standard.

So how do you get a piece?

Or if you live in BC, I guess you go a bit east. Either way, Alberta is where it's at if you're looking for an easy in to oil & gas jobs. It's not that Alberta is the only place, but it is the easiest since many of the companies that will hire you are based there - specifically a little place called Nisku.

But let's start with some basics...

WHAT IS A RIG, ANYWAY?
Few people actually know what they are. The rigs we'll talk about in this site are Land Drilling Rigs - or just Rigs.

A Rig is basically a very large machine that is used to drill a Well - a hole - deep enough so that people with a lot of money can get at all the sweet, sweet oil...or natural gas...or whatever valuable stuff people with a lot of money want.

There's lots of different types of Rigs, but if you're just getting started you really only need to know the three most common:

Singles - These are smaller rigs. But small doesn't mean easy - things move pretty fast on these little fuckers.

Doubles - Bigger than a double, smaller than a triple...

Triples - Triples are usually pretty damn big, but that means that things tend to move a little slower.

There's hundreds of variations of those three. Rigs that have to be moved with trucks, rigs with wheels - there's even rigs that fuckin' walk. But don't worry about that too much right now. There's lots of time to learn, and if you get hired learn you will.

WHAT'S IT LIKE TO WORK ON A RIG?
Working on rigs is fucking hard work. I'm not kidding. There's a reason people make as much money as they do - they earn it. And then some.

The hours are long - 12 hours a day, every day. You will work for two weeks straight and get one week off. Usually, you do one week of nights then switch to days.

WHAT WILL I DO ON A RIG?
Most people who start on rigs begin as Leasehands. Leasehand is the entry-level position on a rig and is basically a very highly paid janitor. You'll scrub, you'll get dinner, you'll make coffee, you'll wash cover-alls, you'll scrub, you'll move shit around, you'll do whatever you're told. Did I mention that you'll scrub? Because you'll scrub.

As a leasehand you do as much as possible to learn about the rig and what everything and everyone does.
